32.000 km, original air in the tires and a surprising turnaround....
Being "on Tour" on a travelling job, there's a lot to see besides the roads.
Like this sign, which looked surely kind of suspiciuos to someone like me:
"20 Years of Ford-Experience"
"Contract-Free Garage"
And that sign looked another ten years old.
Mirror, Brakes, Indicator and into the driveway. My feeling rarely fails...
The first view revealed an old Transit. Not as a worn out workhorse, but with shiny paint in the front window.
In front of the garage, "the usual suspects": A recent Escort who obviously had parking troubles, 2 Sierras ripped to pieces, a Fiesta MK1 with a wheel arch full of new filler.
And lots of used tires behind the house.
But next to the Transit in the front mirror, there HE was:
Ford Taunus 1.6 GLS 1981
Act 1: When Worlds Collide.
A young man enters the garage. He's tall, dressed neatly and elegantly glides around the dirty cars and greasy machines to keep his clothes clean.
The old Shopkeeper is counting the money: It's Friday afternoon and time to sum up the week.
The young man, friendly and slightly imitating the local accent: That's a nice car you have out there in the window !
The Shopkeeper:(hostile) Ain't for sale!!
O: Well, I'm actually thinking about spares, do you know where I could get any ?
S:(not turning his eyes from the money) No! (after a break) There's nuttin' any more.
O: You know, I have one like that, too....
S: ( his eyes become large, a smile appears on his face) : Oh...
A sunray lightens up the Garage, the old one packs away the money and comes to the center of the stage. Beginning of...
Akt 2: Turnaround
O: From 1980, sirius-red...
S:(interrupts) :
Yeah, mine's a 81, was a special offer back then. Got him in 82, when the Sierra came out. End of Season sale, y'know what I mean ?(pensive)
That one never saw a single winter. Standing six years now, only 32 thousand kilometers.
Brand new, more or less.
O: Can I take pictures ?
S: Oh sure.... Walks back, but keeps yelling from the rear ... but, in there he ain't looking nice...
... I oughta just close the hood...
... damn, I gotta go the the bank...
... should take it out into the sun.
... ah, right now, when I got no time...
... Can you come again? O really gotta go.
The young man walks around the house, takes some more pictures and -after saying goodby- rolls down the driveway back to the main road, into the sunset.
The background music starts, it's the commercial theme "Ford Leads the Way" of the seventies.
From below, the credits and a list of actors moves into the screen....
