... among Taunus/Cortina Spares are the gearbox crossmembers from the automatic transmission models.
Here's the whole truth about it, and the results of a dangerous under-cover research concerning the current market value.
What for ?
In Argentinia, you could buy the Taunus 3 (Cortina MkV) with five gears ready.
In Europe, we had to be happy with "four on the floor" to go forward, and on to go back while rearranging the car after an unsuccessfull attempt to park your car (That's why "R").
To keep the gearbox from scraping on the road, its held upward by a beam called gearbox crossmember. That thingy looks like this, in case of a manual transmission:
As time goes by, sending the 1300cc Engines into retirement has become a habit.
Their place is taken by Sierra OHC's or Scorpio V6', and along with the transplantation of this vital organ, a fifth gear is in the mind of most home-mechanics.
It would be really easy to use the one from the Ford Sierra, if you have a crossmember from the automatic trasmission which fits like a glove:
Why ?
The setup-points for the automatic transmission are identical with the ones from the 5-Gear maual transmission. The crossmember is the solution to all problems.
(Changing from automatic to stickshift is not the way to go: the trouble begins when counting the pedals...)
Where from ?
Automatic-Crossmembers are extremly rare.
The times, where it was easy to buy some, are long gone.

Who's got one ?
taunus.at has researched undercover. With anonymous hints in several forums, we could reveal a young man's identity. A go-between established the contact, and finally we met in a shady back-court:
On the spot there: Cortinas broken to parts, a shabby-but rustfree- Turnier in high grass, and an almost-ready prokjekt with estimated 150 PS.
"Our man" offered the crossmembers (original Ford) for 95 EUR apiece.
By threatening to reveal his identity to the desperately searching community in Germany, he lowerde the price to 60 and sent us off swearing-
Our hidden camera has made this picture to proof: It's been pixelised for our all safety.
